Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to miss upto two weeks of first-team action after suffering a knee injury during the first-leg of the Europa League quarter-final against CSKA Moscow. The Armenian played through an hour of the 4-1 victory before he sustained medial ligament damage on his left knee from a tackle.

Martin Keown gives his take on Arsenal’s Premier League struggles

Arsenal great Martin Keown feels his former club are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League this season with Arsene Wenger giving less importance to the defensive side of their game. The Gunners have not won the English crown since the 2003/04 season where they unbeaten through the campaign. The north London outfit have since come close, with a runner-up spot in 2016, but they faced the embarrassment of losing out to Leicester City, who put in a string of top-notch performances under the management of Claudio Ranieri.

Speaking to The Mail, Keown insisted that the Gunners have stuck to an attacking mentality over the past decade, and they will have to find a balance between both sides in order to lift the title, he said, “Arsene Wenger has not won a Premier League title since 2004. His Arsenal teams since have been committed to attacking but have not respected the defensive side of the game enough. I’ve said it time and again — the team which strikes the best balance will win the title.”

Shearer says Gunners were lost against City

Most observers expected Arsenal to get hammered by Manchester City on Sunday but in all fairness, they did not play too badly. Everybody else that has played at the Etihad Stadium has got destroyed.

The Gunners had City on the rack at one stage when Alexandre Lacazette pulled a goal back to get it to 2-1. Eventually as we know, City ran out 3-1 winners but it was a contest.

Arsene Wenger delivers transfer update following Stoke City defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will not change his transfer plans for the summer following a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City.

The Gunners commanded the game with more than 77 percent possession, but they failed to find the cutting edge on the day. The Gunners have brought in just two players in Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette during this summer’s transfer window while their pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar appears to have reached a standstill.

With just 10 days left in the transfer window, teams from across the Premier League are looking to reinforce their respective squads, but Wenger appears content with the options in hand. The long-standing manager insists that he is focused on reducing the overall numbers in his first-team squad as it is already unmanageably big. (more…)

Arsene Wenger privately admits defeat in pursuit of Kylian Mbappe

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger appears to have told his close confidants that the club could miss out on signing top target Kylian Mbappe during this summer’s transfer window.

The Gunners are looking to fend off interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City as they look to secure the services of the French wonderkid.

Mbappe, 18, bagged 26 goals during his breakthrough spell with the Principality outfit last season, and this has earned him a whole host of admirers with Paris Saint-Germain being the latest to have joined the list. Wenger has been confident of luring Mbappe to the Emirates in recent weeks due to the player’s childhood love for Arsenal, but he is now said to be pessimistic about the Gunners prospects, according to Get French Football.

A tweet from the source read: “Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is privately pessimistic about Arsenal’s chances for Kylian Mbappé, according to tomorrow’s L’Équipe.” Wenger made the visit earlier in the week to open up negotiations for Mbappe, but the club look less likely to lodge a bid which could exceed £100m. The American has 67 percent stake at the North London club. Following recent reports of £1 billion bid by AlisherUsmanov, the company of the American released a statement. Arsenal defeated West Ham United 3-0 to boost their hopes of making the top four at the end of the season.

The Gunners seem to have regained confidence after a few threats.

The visitors would be disappointed with the result as it is the first straight loss in the Premier League. United were one of the top teams few months ago but they face relegation concerns this term after a string of poor results.

The game started slowly as the air was tense. After the break, Man of the Match Mesut Ozil got the first goal in his 150th appearance for Arsenal. He was gifted the ball by defender Jose Fonte, which he converted from the edge of the box.

In the absence of Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott led the team. Ozil and Alexis Sanchez combined to set up Walcott for the second goal ten minutes after the opener. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked out striker Olivier Giroud who curled home the third of the match in the 83rd minute.

When the goals started pouring in, the Hammers seemed to collapse despite putting up a decent fight in the first half. Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass were not potent enough upfront, with only Manuel Lanzini and Edmilson Fernandes getting an attempt at goal when the game was already buried. (more…)

Robert Pires has recently come out to back Arsenal to take down Tottenham in their upcoming derby on Sunday.

The Gunners Legend is of the opinion that Arsenal make for a stronger team than rivals Chelsea and Tottenham.

Also, in what seems like an endorsement, Robert Pires has said that the Emirates stadium dwellers are ‘the best team in London’ and so therefore, there is definitely no reason why they can’t bring back the Premier League title this season to the Emirates Stadium.

Pires was amongst the last Gunners side that took the top-flight crown back during the 2003/04 season and since then, that squad has been known in football folklore as “The Invincibles.’

However, the 2016/17 squad will be unable to match that achievement as they have already lost one match. Yet, they are at present in second position on the table with 15 games unbeaten in all competitions so far. With the team’s high morale and momentum building, Arsenal seems to be in perfect shape for their derby game against North London rivals, the Spurs.

Pires believes in the Arsenal set-up, and has endorsed them to come out victorious. However, he sees this as one sterner test of the Gunners’ title credentials.

He words when speaking to the Evening Standard: (more…)

Arsene Wenger has surprisingly been approached by other clubs

For a manager that has been struggling so much to win major pieces of silverware in this past decade, it’s fairly remarkable and unexpected to find out that Arsene Wenger has actually been approached by other clubs and this is the case of the French tactician.

It has recently been revealed that the 66 year old manager has received offers to coach Paris Saint-Germain on multiple occasions but he has rejected all of those approaches as he has stated that his only true desire is to remain at the forefront of Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996 and in this time lapse of 20 years, he has developed a love-hate relationship with the supporters of the Premier League club. There are fans that aren’t so happy to see him at the Emirates Stadium as he has consistently failed to push Arsenal to the 1rst place position in any season of the Premier League from the past decade but there are supporters that have faith and trust in him.

After having spent so many years at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger has recently voiced his love for Arsenal as the French manager said:
