Arsene Wenger delivers transfer update following Stoke City defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will not change his transfer plans for the summer following a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City.

The Gunners commanded the game with more than 77 percent possession, but they failed to find the cutting edge on the day. The Gunners have brought in just two players in Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette during this summer’s transfer window while their pursuit of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar appears to have reached a standstill.

With just 10 days left in the transfer window, teams from across the Premier League are looking to reinforce their respective squads, but Wenger appears content with the options in hand. The long-standing manager insists that he is focused on reducing the overall numbers in his first-team squad as it is already unmanageably big. (more…)

Arsene Wenger privately admits defeat in pursuit of Kylian Mbappe

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger appears to have told his close confidants that the club could miss out on signing top target Kylian Mbappe during this summer’s transfer window.

The Gunners are looking to fend off interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City as they look to secure the services of the French wonderkid.

Mbappe, 18, bagged 26 goals during his breakthrough spell with the Principality outfit last season, and this has earned him a whole host of admirers with Paris Saint-Germain being the latest to have joined the list. Wenger has been confident of luring Mbappe to the Emirates in recent weeks due to the player’s childhood love for Arsenal, but he is now said to be pessimistic about the Gunners prospects, according to Get French Football.

A tweet from the source read: “Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is privately pessimistic about Arsenal’s chances for Kylian Mbappé, according to tomorrow’s L’Équipe.” Wenger made the visit earlier in the week to open up negotiations for Mbappe, but the club look less likely to lodge a bid which could exceed £100m. This is especially as his spell with the Cherries in the 2016/17 season was far from convincing, and he had been besieged with a lot of injury problems. However, Martin Keown, Arsenal legend expects that Wilshere will be offered a new contract by Arsene Wenger upon his return to the club. (more…)

Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has said that his shares are not for sale.

The American has 67 percent stake at the North London club. Following recent reports of £1 billion bid by AlisherUsmanov, the company of the American released a statement. The news of the bid circulated widely following the Gunners’ failure to secure a Champions League spot for the first time in 20 years.

KroenkeSports and Entertainment says it remains a “committed, long term investors in Arsenal.” Usmanov owns 30 percent stake but he is not part of the board or does is he involved in decision making.

The Russian earlier said Kroenke should be held responsible for the team’s failures. So his bid was to buy the club and try to turn it around.

Arsenal are set to play league winners Chelsea on Saturday for the FA Cup. They finished fifth so they would be playing in the Europa League next season but the FA Cup would provide some respite for the team.

Coach Arsene Wenger’s contract is set to end this summer. The French manager would likely continue with the club but the statement from Kroenke did not mention anything about Wenger’s future. Wenger admitted that the uncertainty over his future affected the team. (more…)

Arsenal defeated West Ham United 3-0 to boost their hopes of making the top four at the end of the season.

The Gunners seem to have regained confidence after a few threats.

The visitors would be disappointed with the result as it is the first straight loss in the Premier League. United were one of the top teams few months ago but they face relegation concerns this term after a string of poor results.

The game started slowly as the air was tense. After the break, Man of the Match Mesut Ozil got the first goal in his 150th appearance for Arsenal. He was gifted the ball by defender Jose Fonte, which he converted from the edge of the box.

In the absence of Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott led the team. Ozil and Alexis Sanchez combined to set up Walcott for the second goal ten minutes after the opener. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked out striker Olivier Giroud who curled home the third of the match in the 83rd minute.

When the goals started pouring in, the Hammers seemed to collapse despite putting up a decent fight in the first half. Michail Antonio and Robert Snodgrass were not potent enough upfront, with only Manuel Lanzini and Edmilson Fernandes getting an attempt at goal when the game was already buried. (more…)

Robert Pires has recently come out to back Arsenal to take down Tottenham in their upcoming derby on Sunday.

The Gunners Legend is of the opinion that Arsenal make for a stronger team than rivals Chelsea and Tottenham.

Also, in what seems like an endorsement, Robert Pires has said that the Emirates stadium dwellers are ‘the best team in London’ and so therefore, there is definitely no reason why they can’t bring back the Premier League title this season to the Emirates Stadium.

Pires was amongst the last Gunners side that took the top-flight crown back during the 2003/04 season and since then, that squad has been known in football folklore as “The Invincibles.’

However, the 2016/17 squad will be unable to match that achievement as they have already lost one match. Yet, they are at present in second position on the table with 15 games unbeaten in all competitions so far. With the team’s high morale and momentum building, Arsenal seems to be in perfect shape for their derby game against North London rivals, the Spurs.

Pires believes in the Arsenal set-up, and has endorsed them to come out victorious. However, he sees this as one sterner test of the Gunners’ title credentials.

He words when speaking to the Evening Standard: (more…)

Arsene Wenger has surprisingly been approached by other clubs

For a manager that has been struggling so much to win major pieces of silverware in this past decade, it’s fairly remarkable and unexpected to find out that Arsene Wenger has actually been approached by other clubs and this is the case of the French tactician.

It has recently been revealed that the 66 year old manager has received offers to coach Paris Saint-Germain on multiple occasions but he has rejected all of those approaches as he has stated that his only true desire is to remain at the forefront of Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996 and in this time lapse of 20 years, he has developed a love-hate relationship with the supporters of the Premier League club. There are fans that aren’t so happy to see him at the Emirates Stadium as he has consistently failed to push Arsenal to the 1rst place position in any season of the Premier League from the past decade but there are supporters that have faith and trust in him.

After having spent so many years at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger has recently voiced his love for Arsenal as the French manager said:

Arsene Wenger has once again confirmed that he will be prepared to spend big money

Arsene Wenger has once again confirmed that he will be prepared to spend big money on a player should there be a necessity.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of forwards during the summer, but they have failed to make any major significance signings so far. There is growing concern amongst Arsenal fans with the season upon them. Arsenal were thought to be very close to securing Jamie Vardy for around £ 20 million from champions Leicester City. However, Vardy chose to stay at Leicester by signing a new four-year contract. Following this major blow, Arsenal shifted their attention towards Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.

Negotiations have been going on for several weeks and it now looks highly unlikely that the club will be able to sign him since Lyon are unwilling to sell at Arsenal’s asking price. In contrast, Arsenal have given a take or leave offer to the French club. Even though performances in the pre-season friendly games have been extremely good, Arsenal fans feared that the upcoming 2016-17 season will be a repeat of the club’s performances in the last decade whereby they have not been consistent over the course of the season to create any major impact in the table.

Serie A giant Juventus want Arsenal forward Alexis Sánchez to replace Álvaro Morata this summer, according to reports.

Real Madrid activated their buy-back clause they had with Juventus to get Morata. The club is believed would resell the player for profits, after interests in the player increased following his impressive performance for Juve last season.

Arsenal, Chelsea and a few other top clubs are in a battle to sign the Spanish forward this summer. It is likely that Madrid will sell to the highest bidder. On the other hand, Juventus are looking to replace the forward with Arsenal’s Sanchez. The Chilean was part of the team that defeated Argentina for the second time in a row to lift the Copa America played in the United States recently.

Juventus having signed Dani Alves from Barcelona want Sanchez to replace Morata upfront. There are still reports that the club might sell Paul Pogba to Real Madrid for the right price, but as the team is losing players, the club is also seeking for other talented talents to join in. (more…)
