WENGER PLEASED

The manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, is pleased with the way his team recovered from the defeat against Manchester United and put up a solid show against Southampton yesterday.

Arsenal defeated Southampton by 2-0. The result suggests that it was a dominating performance by the Gunners, but, that wasn’t the case. They were given good, tough fight by the Southampton side, but, a couple of individual brilliances from Olivier Giroud, one in each half, helped them to secure 3 points from the game.

It was the 9th victory for the Gunners in the Premier League this season. With this victory, they maintained their first position in the points table. They have got 28 points in the bag at the moment which is 4 more than the no. 2 side Liverpool.

Arsenal had gone into the international break with a bit of a setback as they had been beaten by Manchester United by 0-1 in an away game. But, the way they have come back after the break, it seems they are ready for another good run.

Talking to the reporters in the press conference after the match against Southampton, Wenger said, “Southampton is a fine side and if they had secured 3 points today, they would have equalized with us in terms of points. So, it was important for us to play well and we did that. We made sure that we pounced on the mistakes committed by them. These are vital 3 points for us.”

Meanwhile, with his two goals against Southampton, Olivier Giroud got into top 5 in the list of leading goal scorers in the league this season. He has found the net 7 times for the Gunners so far. The top position in that list is acquired by the Liverpool duo of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
