RIOCH: SIGN HIM UP

Former Arsenal manager Bruce Rioch has said that Arsene Wenger should have learnt from his past mistakes and should not commit the same mistakes in the case of Robin van Persie. Van Persie is currently entering into the final year of his contract, and Rioch is urging Arsene to get him signed up to a new contract.

Wenger had an extremely bad experience with Samir Nasri, whom he had to sell to Manchester City for a transfer fee of £ 25 million due to the fact that he was in his final year of the contract. If Arsene Wenger had insisted on Samir Nasri seeing out his contract instead, then he would have had to lose the player worth around £ 40 million on a free transfer. Wenger has also had a bad experience with the case of Mathieu Flamini, who left for AC Milan on a free transfer a few seasons ago.

Robin van Persie is regarded as one of the best strikers in the division right now. He has scored 31 goals this season already, and is on course to becoming one of the representatives of the Premier league at the European Golden Boot award. He’s behind just Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the race for this coveted award.

“They lost their key player in Fabregas and to a certain extent Nasri which sent a signal out and it is not a very good signal when you lose your best players. It may have happened at Manchester United with Wayne Rooney but it was dealt with swiftly and effectively to keep him at the club and the impact it has had at the club as been terrific,” Rioch said in a recent interview.

Robin van Persie will demand the arrival of many high profile players in order to stay with Arsenal, or he would be demanding a significant pay rise when the contract talks start. One of the best Premier League bets online might be to place money on him staying at Arsenal – some bookies are offering odds of 3/1 that he will still be at the club he loves in August.
