Arsenal defended their Premier League title in style with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners trailed after just two minutes when Morgan Rogers fired Chelsea ahead, but they responded with determination and quality to claim all three points.
Mikel Arteta watched his side produce an exceptional performance. Goals from Kai Havertz and captain Martin Odegaard sealed the comeback. Havertz equalised midway through the first half before Odegaard struck the winner in the second period. This result extended Arsenal’s perfect start to three wins from three matches.
Havertz and Odegaard Lead the Charge
Havertz showed his clinical finishing after latching onto a precise through ball from Bukayo Saka. The German striker’s movement created space in a crowded box, allowing him to slot home calmly past the Chelsea goalkeeper. Odegaard then took centre stage late on, curling a low shot into the bottom corner after a neat one-two with new signing Christos Tzolis.
Tzolis, signed from Club Brugge for around €40 million, already looks at home in the Arsenal attack. His diagonal runs and link-up play with Odegaard added another dimension to the champions’ forward line. Declan Rice dominated midfield alongside the Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes, who was acquired from Newcastle for £75 million.
Arsenal’s defence, anchored by William Saliba and Gabriel, restricted Chelsea’s threats after the early setback. David Raya made several key saves to maintain the clean sheet from the 33rd minute onwards. The Gunners created 18 shots in total, with seven on target, underlining their dominance once they settled.
Chelsea, managed by Xabi Alonso, had started brightly but faded. They have now conceded seven goals in three league games. Morgan Rogers’ early strike proved their only real highlight in a match where midfield control slipped away after the interval.
Arteta praised the reaction and conviction on show. The manager noted how the team displayed the quality he wants to see consistently. With Manchester City also on maximum points, this early statement win sets up an intriguing title race.
