ROBBEN BACKS DRAW

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has claimed that Arsenal certainly deserved a draw from their second leg Champions League match against the German outfit. Arsenal were coming into the encounter after having lost the first leg 2-0. Many had already written off Arsenal’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition since they were up against a Bayern Munich team that were coming into the match as the holders of the competition. They are also regarded as one of the strongest in the world right now. However, Arsenal proved that they can be a match for any top team by managing a 1-1 draw.

Bastian Schweinsteiger scored the opening goal for Bayern Munich early on in the second half, but the German outfit were unable to hold onto this lead for much longer, as Lukas Podolski scored against his former club a few minutes later. Robben was a constant menace against Arsenal, but he was unable to help Bayern Munich get the victory. However, he came close to doing so after winning a penalty late on in the match. Thomas Müller, though, missed this penalty that would have given them a win. Robben says that Arsenal did extremely well and that a draw was a fair result.

The Dutch international also said that the club are not planning to rest on their laurels this campaign.

“They (Arsenal) have a very good team, they have a lot of quality on the pitch. If you give them the ball, they can play and cause you troubles. The main thing for us was to keep ball possession and to control the game. And that’s what we did in the first half. We played really well, created chances and with a bit more luck, we should have scored a goal,” said the former Chelsea man.
